Excuses for Keeping Abortion Legal

Dear Friend of Life,

“…in this world, nothing is certain, except death and taxes.”

So said Benjamin Franklin.

And it’s true.

However, there are some outcomes which may not be as certain as death and taxes but we are still pretty sure they will happen.

Take, for example, the behavior of living organisms. We can predict wolves will hunt, worms will squirm, and the sloth will eventually descend from its tree.

Yes, some living things are extremely predictable. And one such creature is the Establishment Politician.

With that in mind, I’m releasing this List of Excuses to Keep Abortion Legal, which you will hear from the political class in 2019.

They will tell you they cannot pass Protection at Conception to end abortion in our state, and they’ll use this list of excuses.

List of Excuses to Keep Abortion Legal

  • It’s not the right time.

  • We need to make sure we have the support.

  • We still need more Supreme Court justices.

  • This isn’t the right bill to challenge Roe.

  • This will cost taxpayers too much money.

  • There’s not enough time because we’re focused on the budget.

  • We don’t want to undo all of our hard work.

  • If we pass this, it will make things worse.

  • I’m with you in principle, but you’re going about it the wrong way.

Sometimes, an Establishment Politician will go rogue and say something like, “It will be the wild, wild, west out there” if we end abortion in Indiana. Or, a “pro-life” Republican MIGHT threaten to fight the government if his wife were denied an abortion.

Once in awhile, a member of the political class slips up and tells the truth: “We never plan to end abortion.”

Yes, my friend, politicians’ behavior is predictable--left to themselves, they will do little to nothing and they will feed you all kinds of excuses as to why they must remain inactive.

But, another predictable behavior of politicians is their response to voters.

If we, the pro-life community, make our voices heard, our elected officials will listen. We have changed their minds and their behavior before, and we can do it again.

That’s why we must not leave our elected officials to themselves. We must intervene and hold their feet to the fire.

And Hoosiers for Life has a plan.

First of all, we must let Indiana lawmakers know exactly what we want—and what we want is to save every last baby from the horror of abortion. We will not compromise on the lives of the innocent, and we will not back down until we have secured an unborn child’s God-given right to live.

Next, we need an up or down roll call vote on Protection at Conception. That way, we can see which legislators will protect the unborn and which will cave to Planned Parenthood’s demands to keep child killing legal.

Either way, we win, because if our pro-life legislators do their jobs and protect ALL preborn babies at conception, then abortion is ended in Indiana.

If our pro-life legislators do Planned Parenthood’s bidding and vote “no” on saving every baby from abortion, then voters will see who is really pro-life and who just said they were to earn votes. This is something politicians do NOT want to reveal, but it’s what we all deserve to know.

I will be keeping track and letting you know who votes yes for saving lives and who votes no.

Now, there are a lot of steps to getting the roll call vote, and it will take a lot of hard work and persistence to move these reluctant politicians to action, but with your help, I know we can do it.

Then, please forward the petition to three of your friends you know will sign.

We need an army of voices demanding protection for the pre-born, and the more people who speak up, the better chances we have of changing a politician’s expected behavior.

Be watching for my email announcing when Rep. Curt Nisly files his life saving bill. We will need you to be ready to make phone calls to legislators on behalf of the pre-born.

Besides sharing the Protection of Life Petition and being at the ready to make calls, there is one more thing you can do. You can chip in $10 or $5 to help me fight this battle.

Part of our plan is contacting pro-life Hoosiers around the state and educating them on the behavior of their elected officials, and every email, direct mail piece, or targeted Facebook ad costs money. The more people we can contact, the louder our voices can be. So, I hope you’ll consider pitching in to help.

Our goal with Protection at Conception this year is a roll call vote, and I know Establishment Politicians will be resistant and even downright opposed to it. I will work hard to get that vote, but even if we aren’t able to motivate our elected officials to do the right thing, we will still gain significant ground here in Indiana.

In fact, we already have.

Thanks to your hard work, the Republican party changed its platform to sound more pro-life, Rep. Ben Smaltz protested Planned Parenthood, and the movement to save every last baby from abortion has grown by leaps and bounds.

I know we will continue to make a difference until we can put enough pressure on the political class to do their jobs and end abortion in our state.

Until then, be on the lookout for excuses in my list above. And when your elected official uses one on you, be ready to double down and demand an end to legalized child killing. Hoosier babies deserve our protection at conception, and I’m thankful you stand with me in fighting to protect them all.

For Life,

Amy Schlichter

Hoosiers for Life

P.S. Establishment Politicians are resistant to passing Rep. Curt Nisly’s Protection at Conception Bill, which would effectively end abortion in Indiana. Our goal is an up or down roll call vote on this life saving bill. But, we already know the political class will respond with a number of excuses to keep child killing legal.

(Read my list of excuses to keep abortion legal in the article above so you know what to look out for.)

That’s why we must hold our elected officials’ feet to the fire and insist they end abortion in Indiana.

Then, forward it to three of your friends who will sign.

And, I also hope you will pitch in $10 or $5 to help me hold “pro-life” politicians accountable to their campaign promises.
