Your Voice Was Heard!

Dear Friend, Making our voices heard to our elected officials is an important step in securing an unborn baby’s God-given right to live.

In last week’s primary election, pro-lifers in Indiana did just that.

Elections, of course, are where politicians are forced to seek the “consent of the governed” in the United States. In fact, for this very reason, most elected officials hate contested elections. And they especially hate having opposition in a primary. This makes election season the very best time for pro-lifers to make our voices heard by lobbying the politicians. And you did a great job. In House District 22, State Representative Curt Nisly was challenged by a candidate who openly opposed the Protection at Conception Bill. Nisly’s opponent went so far as to declare ending abortion a “radical” idea.

By contrast, Rep. Curt Nisly is a proven pro-life hero. He authored the historic Protection at Conception Bill, which would protect ALL unborn babies at the moment of conception and save nearly 8,000 children per year from the savagery of abortion.

On Election Day, life advocates sent a strong message to the political class: there is a political price for opposing an end to abortion in Indiana. Curt Nisly won his primary election by a wide margin, and his opponent was left reeling in defeat after coming out publicly against Protection at Conception. In several other districts around the state, you made your voices heard in support of protecting unborn babies. Some candidates did not return their Hoosiers for Life Candidate Survey, and you let them know you expect them to be open about their views on abortion. I also reminded our supporters what actions incumbents had taken against pre-born babies. For example, State Rep. Ben Smaltz has proven himself to be hostile toward the cause of the unborn.

Smaltz did what Planned Parenthood asked him to do and killed Protection at Conception legislation two years in a row in the committee he chairs.

I asked our supporters to lobby Smaltz on this issue and urge him to reverse course. Your outreach to Rep. Smaltz was immediately effective. He began repeatedly posting an endorsement from another pro-life group on his social media page to try and give himself political cover for his anti-life actions.

Then, he was so frazzled by your phone calls, he hastily threw together a press conference where he accepted an endorsement from a Congressman who had just voted $500 million in funding to Planned Parenthood!

And, when you ramped up the pressure even more, Rep. Smaltz showed up to Planned Parenthood at a staged protest, attempting to prove to you he is pro-life! I also asked you to lobby Rep. David Wolkins, who opposes Protection at Conception. Again, you answered the call. Rep. Wolkins became so rattled by your lobbying effort he lashed out at pro-lifers on Facebook and lied about the contents of Nisly’s bill, hoping to gain support. In every instance, you rose to the challenge to reach out and lobby these candidates to reverse course and to instead come out in favor of an unborn baby’s right to live. And in each case, the politician learned there is a cost for betraying unborn babies. Hopefully, next time Wolkins and Smaltz have the opportunity to support legislation which would end abortion in Indiana, they’ll be reminded of the flak they caught for opposing the Protection at Conception Bill. Will you please chip in $20 or $10 so I can reach out to even more Hoosiers the next time we need to speak up for pre-born babies?

After that, make sure you have signed your Protection of Life Petition, showing your support for ending abortion in Indiana.

If you’ve already signed, please forward this message on to three of your friends to help us build an even bigger army for the unborn.

Thank you so much for your hard work this primary election season. I am honored to fight for our pre-born neighbors alongside you. For LIFE, Amy Schlichter Executive Director Hoosiers for Life P.S. Indiana’s primary election last week was a wonderful opportunity for you to lobby politicians on behalf of unborn babies -- and you rose to the occasion. Members of the political class were put on notice that they will pay a political price if they choose to betray pre-born children once they are in office. Thanks to your hard work, LIFE was a major issue for the last few months, and will continue to be so as we prepare to push for Protection at Conception in the 2019 legislative session. Please consider chipping in $20 or $10 to help me reach even more Hoosiers with these vital messages.

Paid for by the supporters of Hoosiers for Life, a tax exempt non-profit organization under IRC 501(c)(4) which does not endorse, support, or oppose candidates for election.
